Kim’s Video

Physical media reigns supreme in KIM’S VIDEO, an elegiac tribute to the iconic video store in New York City that inspired a generation of cinephiles before it mysteriously closed its doors and sent its legendary film archive to a small Sicilian village for “safekeeping.” But what starts as an homage to cinema quickly becomes a rescue mission to ensure the eternal preservation of the beloved video collection.

2024, 88 Minutes, USA/Italy, Directed by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin

  • "This caper-slash-personal essay is an admirable endeavor that honors, above all, a filmmaker’s fixation on a medium that makes him whole."

    - Carlos Aguilar, LOS ANGELES TIMES
  • "Kim’s Video, in its low-fi style, its unexpectedly Campbellian structure, and its manic, cinephilic content, brings us together to celebrate not just what film teaches us, but what the movies really mean to us… and how far we’ll go to rent them."

    - Payton McCarty-Simas, FILM INQUIRY
  • "This playful, introspective, and daring documentary becomes a part of Mondo Kim’s story, setting up a funhouse mirror that shows the true reflection of the people who would do anything to protect film access for those who truly love movies."

    - Jessica Scott, FILM CRED
  • "Unashamedly quirky but bursting with the love of film, this is the sort of one-off doc that’s as much about the engaging playfulness of its construction as it is the content."

    - Amber Wilkinson, EYE FOR FILM
