Featuring a post-show conversation on the history of drag with Gidget Galore and Chantel Reshae!
From the sun-scorched highways of the Australian outback came one of the most joyful, defiant, and unexpectedly moving road movies ever made. Stephan Elliott’s glitter-drenched cult classic follows two drag queens and a transgender woman—Tick (Hugo Weaving, Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Adam (Guy Pearce, Memento), and Bernadette (Terence Stamp, Superman II)—as they pile into a battered lavender tour bus named “Priscilla” and journey across the desert to perform a remote cabaret gig. Along the way they encounter intolerance, heartbreak, unlikely friendship, and moments of pure cinematic euphoria, all set to an unforgettable soundtrack of disco anthems and pop classics.
What begins as a wild comedy of outrageous costumes, lip-sync performances, and razor-sharp one-liners gradually reveals itself as something deeper: a poignant story about identity, chosen family, aging, parenthood, and survival in places not always welcoming to difference. The film’s iconic imagery, from silver platform boots to the legendary giant stiletto atop the bus, helped cement it as one of the defining queer films of the 1990s.
Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Costume Design (Lizzy Gardiner, who famously wore a dress made of American Express gold cards to the ceremony) and a worldwide arthouse sensation, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert helped push LGBTQIA+ stories into the mainstream while influencing fashion, drag culture, queer cinema, and stage musicals for decades to come.
