Based on the beloved novel by Louis Sachar, Holes follows Stanley Yelnats IV, a shy teenager played by Shia LaBeouf, who is wrongly accused of stealing a famous athlete’s shoes and sentenced to Camp Green Lake, a brutal juvenile detention camp hidden in the Texas desert. Under the watchful eye of the mysterious Warden (Sigourney Weaver), Stanley and the other boys (Squid, Armpit, X-Ray, Zigzag…) are forced to dig enormous holes every day, supposedly to “build character.” Alongside his friendship with the quiet but resourceful Zero (Khleo Thomas), Stanley discovers the truth behind Camp Green Lake and his family’s long history of bad luck.

2003, 117 minutes, USA, directed by Andrew Davis, Rated PG

“A movie so strange that it escapes entirely from the family genre and moves into fantasy. Like "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," it has fearsome depths and secrets.”
– Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

“An action-adventure family film with heart as well as humor.”
– Claudio Puig, USA TODAY

“Honoring the literary ground beneath it, spotted yellow lizards and all, the movie Holes is easy to dig.”
– Lisa Schwarzbaum, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“The movie is a similarly ingenious clockwork contraption that interlocks the most unlikely combination of stories without ever jamming its gears.”
– Laura Miller, SALON
