The Little Mermaid

35th Anniversary!

In Disney’s beguiling animated romp, rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel (Jodi Benson) is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula (Pat Carroll) to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.

USA, 1989, 83 minutes,, Rated G, Directed by Ron Clements & John Musker

  • "An absolute masterpiece in the Disney tradition."

    - Hal Lipper, TAMPA BAY TIMES
  • "The animation is dazzling (two-thirds of the movie is set underwater). The love story between mermaid Ariel (the sweet voice of Jodi Benson) and mortal Prince Eric (Christopher Daniel Barnes) is fairy-tale wonderful. And there is a slew of terrific side characters that make the movie as entertaining for adults as it is for children."

    - Barbara Shulgasser, SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER
  • "Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid is a jolly and inventive animated fantasy - a movie that's so creative and so much fun it deserves comparison with the best Disney work of the past."

    - Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
  • "What the film does expertly is to weave together music, likable protagonists, thoroughly nasty villains, and a fun plot into a cohesive whole, with a result that is nothing short of magical."

    - James Berardinelli, REELVIEWS
