A beloved Christmas classic, The Bishop’s Wife offers a charming blend of romance, comedy, and a little heavenly intervention, reminding us that sometimes the things we want most aren’t necessarily the things we need.

Directed by Henry Koster, this delightful fantasy stars Cary Grant as Dudley, a sophisticated and impossibly charming angel sent to help an ambitious bishop (David Niven) who has become so consumed with raising money for a new cathedral that he has lost sight of his family and the people who matter most. As Dudley works his celestial magic, he develops a particularly warm friendship with the bishop’s neglected wife, Julia (Loretta Young), leaving the bishop to wonder whether his heavenly visitor might be a little too good at his job.

Featuring a memorable supporting turn by the Bride of Frankenstein herself, Elsa Lanchester, a sparkling score by nine-time Oscar nominated composer Hugo Friedhofer (An Affair to Remember), and gorgeous cinematography by Gregg Toland (Citizen Kane), The Bishop’s Wife is a sophisticated holiday treat with a timeless message of joy.
