Whoopi Goldberg stars as Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who’s forced into witness protection after seeing a mob hit. Hidden away in a convent under the watchful eye of a stern Mother Superior (Maggie Smith, Harry Potter), Deloris accidentally revitalizes the church’s struggling choir—turning a group of quiet nuns into a joyful, show-stopping sensation belting out classic 1960’s Motown hits.
With memorable supporting turns from Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus), Mary Wickes (White Christmas), and the legendary Harvey Keitel and a brilliant screenplay by Paul Rudnick (Addams Family Values), the film was a box office smash upon release. Nominated for two Golden Globes (Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress for Goldberg) the film went on to inspire a hit Broadway musical where it was nominated for 5 Tony Awards!
