Rize:

Rize (2005), directed by legendary photographer and filmmaker David LaChapelle, is a raw, electrifying documentary that dives into the birth of two explosive Los Angeles dance movements: clowning and krumping. Set in South Central L.A., the film follows dancers Tommy the Clown, Lil’ C, and Miss Prissy as they transform street dance into a powerful outlet for joy, rage, and survival, and a tool for self-expression, community, and resistance in neighborhoods shaped by violence and inequality. Blending high-energy battle footage with intimate interviews and a genre-spanning soundtrack, Rize captures how movement becomes a lifeline and a revolution on the streets of Los Angeles.

2005, 84 minutes, USA/UK, Directed by David LaChapelle, Rated PG-13
