Scooby-Doo (2002):

If you really think about it, it makes perfect sense that our first monster movies were probably Scooby-Doo cartoons. Before Freddy, Jason, or Michael Myers, there was The Creeper, the Ghost of Captain Cutler, the Witch Doctor, and countless other "supernatural" fiends lurking in haunted houses and fog-covered swamps. Week after week, those meddling kids, and their cowardly Great Dane, taught an entire generation that monsters were meant to be feared, laughed at, and, ultimately, unmasked.

For the long-awaited live-action adaptation, self-proclaimed "monster kid" James Gunn (Slither, Guardians of the Galaxy) teamed with director Raja Gosnell to create a film that lovingly embraces the franchise while giving it just enough sarcastic bite for the generation that grew up with it to sink their adult teeth into. Together, they recruited a who’s who of ‘90s teen heartthrobs who all started out in the horror genre: Freddie Prinze Jr. (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Matthew Lillard (Scream), and Linda Cardellini, who got her first taste of horror starring in Dee Snider's Strangeland before breaking out in Freaks and Geeks. 

This time, Mystery Inc. reunites after a two-year split, when the gang is invited to investigate a series of supernatural occurrences at the tropical resort Spooky Island. As guests begin acting strangely, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby must put aside their differences to uncover the truth behind the island's eerie secrets, confronting real monsters, ancient curses, and a sinister plot that could doom the world.

Packed with monsters, laughs, and just enough spooky atmosphere to make you wonder who's really behind the mask, Scooby-Doo is a loving tribute to the cartoon that turned so many of us into…ZOINKS…lifelong horror fans.
