Big Fat Liar:
Jason Shepherd (Frankie Muniz) is a 14-year-old compulsive liar whose homework assignment is stolen by a corrupt Hollywood producer who turns it into a major feature film. Determined to prove the that he’s not making it all up (for once), Jason and his best friend Kaylee (Amanda Bynes) travel to Los Angeles to confront the man responsible and reclaim his story.
That man—played with wild, scenery-chewing abandon by Paul Giamatti—is Marty Wolf, a hilariously unscrupulous studio executive whose escalating meltdown becomes the film’s comic engine. Giamatti’s performance, equal parts cartoon-villain-menace and slapstick absurdity, elevates the material into something memorably chaotic, showcasing his remarkable versatility.
While Levy would go on to major success with Deadpool & Wolverine, Night at the Museum, and Stranger Things, Big Fat Liar remains a defining early entry in his filmography, an energetic testament to his knack for broad comedy and anchored by Giamatti’s unhinged performance.
2002, 88 minutes, USA, Directed by Shawn Levy, Rated PG
