Goon Docks, Oregon. To make way for a new golf course, the entire community of the peaceful coastal town faces imminent foreclosure. But the game isn’t over until the fat lady sings. When a band of local childhood friends calling themselves the Goonies stumble upon an old map, secret clues leading to the fabled treasure of notorious pirate One-Eyed Willy set in motion a wild mission to save their homes. With the criminal Fratelli family hot on their trail, a frantic race against time begins. Faced with Willy’s complex booby traps, will the Goonies prove their mettle? But first things first. Is the mythical treasure real?
1985, 114 minutes, USA, Directed by Richard Donner, Rated PG
-
“It has crooks, bats, cobwebs, skeletons, a lovable monster, an underground grotto and a treasure hidden by some of the most considerate, clue-loving pirates who ever lived. Their ghostly ship is the movie's piece de resistance”
– Janet Maslin, THE NEW YORK TIMES -
“The Goonies, like Gremlins, shows that [Producer] Spielberg and his directors are absolute masters of how to excite and involve an audience.”
– Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES -
“You're reminded of what it was like, as a child, to trust in wishing wells and, without thinking very much about it, switch from walking along to skipping.”
– Jay Boyar, ORLANDO SENTINEL -
“If you don't like The Goonies you may be a little dead inside.”
– Stephen Carty, EYE FOR FILM -
“Replete with lavish and quirky set design, goofily harmless antics, and smart scoring, Donner manages to delight and surprise at every turn in a coming of age tale the likes of which is rarely seen.”
