Real Genius

Our Huckleberry Friend – The Films of Val Kilmer, Part 2

“Interesting characters are troubled characters. The only problem I’ve had in my business is very few people – unfortunately, very vocal – confusing the difficult role that I play with me. I play these guys, but I’m not like them.” – Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer’s film career is a rich tapestry of diverse roles that highlight his remarkable versatility and commitment to character. From Batman to Iceman, Jim Morrison to Doc Holliday, Kilmer’s dynamic range often brought his own wit, vulnerability, and eccentric artistry to his legendary filmography. With a succession of iconic roles to choose from we celebrate the life and career of this incredible artist. We’d be his wingman anytime!

Real Genius:

40th Anniversary!

Val Kilmer stars as Chris Knight, a laid-back whiz kid whose genius is only rivaled by his sarcasm.  Saddled with an uptight freshman (Gabe Jarret), Knight and his fellow students soon discover their professor (William Atherton, Die Hard, Ghostbusters) is planning to turn their laser project into a military weapon. Packed with quotable lines, prank-filled hijinks, and a killer ’80s soundtrack, Real Genius is a cult classic that blends big brains with bad behavior, and just the right amount of popcorn.

1985, 108 minutes, USA, Directed by Martha Coolidge, Rated PG

  • “Friends, the world is a wacky, wonderful tapestry of opinions and taste. However, there is one universal truth that I must insist we all acknowledge: Real Genius is the best movie of 1985. If you disagree, I'll see you in hell.”

    – Kate Hudson, PAJIBA
  • “Nerds just wanna have fun.”

    – Colin Greenland, WHITE DWARF
  • “[Martha Coolidge] turned in the summer's best, and she didn't cheat to do it. There's heart in the kookiness. Real Genius has real people, real comedy and real fun."

    – Salem Alaton, THE GLOBE AND MAIL
