After coming out to her conservative parents, a 17-year-old Asian-American teen, Twinkie, takes off on a road trip to meet her online crush with the help of her best friend, Egghead. Bursting with colorful animation and kinetic comic book flourishes reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, EGGHEAD & TWINKIE is filled with awkward crushes, road trips, an up-tempo collection of indie music to coast along with, and two wonderfully cast leads in Sabrina Jie-A-Fa and Louis Tomeo who make you yearn for your high school besties. It transports you back to that awkward yet euphoric feeling of being a teenager in love before the cynicism of the real world kicked in. You know, the “good old days.”

2023, 87 minutes, USA, Directed by Sarah Kambe Holland, Not Rated

  • “A sweet and engaging movie. It’s not afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve and offer a pretty wholesome take on the queer coming-of-age genre.”

    – Alejandra Martinez, AUSTIN CHRONICLE
  • “The love it lifts up is the kind ultimately has little to do with questions of sexual identity... the kind that transcends biology and sexuality to express something arguably more essential – the genuine emotional bond between two kindred souls.”

    – John Paul King, WASHINGTON BLADE
  • “True to the spirit of its intended audience, there's hilarity, shattering realizations, and plenty of manga- and anime-inspired visuals.”

    – Andrea Thompson, CHICAGO READER
  • “This movie speaks to a young audience who will no doubt find much of the subject matter to be very relatable in modern times.”

    – Jordan Bond, FILM THREAT
