Michelle Trachtenberg Tribute Film

Harriet Welsch (Michelle Trachtenberg in her feature film debut) may only be in the sixth grade, but she’s already found her calling: to be a spy. In a private journal she takes everywhere, Harriet records suspicious activity and keeps a running list of observations on virtually everyone she knows. It seems harmless enough until, one day, someone finds the journal and exposes Harriet’s critical thoughts about her classmates. Suddenly, even her best friends are against her, and Harriet resolves to take revenge.

Based on the beloved coming-of-age novel by Louise Fitzhugh, this instant ‘90s classic was the first feature film ever produced by Nickelodeon studios and won 11-year old Trachtenberg the Best Performance by a Leading Young Actress at the 1997 Young Artists Awards.  Don’t miss out on this special free screening in celebration of Michelle’s life and legacy.

1996, USA, 100 minutes, Directed by Bronwen Hughes, Rated PG

  • “Harriet the Spy is an intelligent, insightful look at the tribulations of being a creative, misunderstood misfit at age eleven.”

    – James Berardinelli, REEL VIEWS
  • “Michelle Trachtenberg has the features of a smirky young gopher. That face is so adorable it may take you a while to realize how many shades of pride, joy, and — when the other kids turn on her — fear are passing across it.”

    – Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
  • “A rare children's story that celebrates the budding artistic spirit.”

    – Jeffrey Westhoff, NORTHWEST HERALD
  • "Michelle Trachtenberg (of Nickelodeon’s “Adventures of Pete & Pete”), makes a plucky young neighborhood snoop.”

    – Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
