50th Anniversary 2K Restoration!
Considered by many to be one of Italian horror maestro Mario Bava’s best, this occult murder mystery skillfully interweaves elements of the ‘giallo’ thriller formula with a creepy Gothic ghost story. Set in modern day Transylvania, an evil curse has fallen on the village which has been plagued by a series of bizarre murders, in which female victims keep turning up with gold coins embedded in their hearts. In order to free the village from this evil curse, the local sorceress (Fabienne Dali) must find and destroy the vengeful Baroness Graps (Gianni Vivaldi), who along with the ghost of her murdered daughter, seek to claim the villagers’ souls in retribution (with pretty Erica Blanc next on the list).

"Bava was a true horror visionary who influenced countless directors and nobody could do better with smoke, cobwebs and lighting to create a shadowy nightmare world than he. Seeing these films in a cinema is a mind-altering experience."- Paper
"A true masterpiece... The restored version is just beautiful to look at: colors pop, film grains are visible in the shadows and blemishes on the negatives are all but cleaned up. The restoration makes the film truly the most gorgeous and elegant among all of Bava's films."- Screen Anarchy
"A new restoration brightens the corners of Mario Bava's superb gothic 1966 freak-out, crisply rendering each open grave, rotting skull, Limeade cobweb, and tendril of swirling mist."- Village Voice
