Multi-talented comedian Demetri Martin pulls triple duty in this disarming, heartfelt comedy as writer, director, and star. Dean (Martin) is an illustrator who has recently suffered the death of his mother and ended a serious relationship. He spends most of his time doodling morbid yet very clever cartoons of the Grim Reaper and needs to come to terms with his father (Academy Award®-winner Kevin Kline) selling his childhood home. Instead, he decides to run away from his problems in New York and seek haven in Los Angeles, where he meets Nicky (Gillian Jacobs). Meanwhile, at a different stage in life, Dean’s father is also following a similar path after meeting a real estate agent (Academy Award®-winner Mary Steenburgen). Both father and son set out to find a new normal as unexpected circumstances and potential new love interests arise. Martin’s impressive directorial debut is an idiosyncratic and humorous take on one of the hardest trials we all must endure—losing a parent and finding who we are in life without them.
