ENZIAN COLLABORATES WITH Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society, UCF,  and Rollins College for a special PROGRAM:  THE YEARLING: A GREAT BOOK, A GREAT MOVIE

This is a collaborative program between Enzian, the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society,  UCF, and Rollins College. The society is promoting this as “The Year of ‘The Yearling.”  Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the publication of the book (2013) and its Pulitzer Prize (2014) with an educational panel before the film then a free screening on the lawn.

WHAT:•  6PM – Educational panel and discussion
Dr. Maurice “Socky” O’Sullivan (Kenneth Curry Professor of Literature,  Rollins College), Dr. Jack Lane (Professor Emeritus, Rollins College History Dept.), Dr. Leslie Poole (Adjunct Professor,  History and Environmental Studies Depts., Rollins College, & Member of the Board of Trustees of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society), and Dr. Anna Lillios (English Dept., UCF, Executive Director of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society, & Member of the Board of Trustees of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society) will lead a discussion of MKR and The Yearling in the Eden Courtyard.  Florence Turcotte, archivist for the Rawlings collection at the University of Florida, will be attending and offering a table with artifacts from Rawlings.
• 7PM – Free screening on the Lawn

THE YEARLING (USA, 1946, In English, 128 min, Unrated,  Directed by Clarence Brown) - Life abounds in the 1870’s Florida scrubland that’s home to young Jody Baxter. There are bears to hunt, cash crops to plant,  evenings of storytelling with Pa and Ma… and there are timeless lessons of love and letting go that Jody learns from Flag, the orphaned pet fawn that follows him around with devotion.
